Dezeen reveals the best architecture, interiors and design projects and studios of 2019

Dezeen has announced the best architecture, interiors and design projects of the year, as well as the best studios and emerging studios for the 2019 Dezeen Awards, running its second edition this year. 

Three projects and six studios were awarded at the Dezeen Awards 2019 party, held on October 30 at Ennismore Sessions House in London. Edition Office from Australia, Vo Trong Nghia Architects from Vietnam and Mediated Matter Group at MIT Media Lab are among the winners for the Dezeen Awards. 

The overall winners were selected from the thirty winning projects of each category - including architecture, design and interior, which were announced in October. 

Dezeen Awards jury composed of international architects, designers and academics. The esteemed panel includes Virgil Abloh, Marc Newson, Tom Dixon, Frida Escobedo, Kelly Hoppen, Lyndon Neri, Philippe Starck, Cristina Celestino and Patricia Urquiola.

Architecture project of the year: A Room for Archaeologists and Kids

"A Room for Archaeologists and Kids by Studio Tom Emerson and Taller 5 has won architecture project of the year. Selected by the master jury from 10 category winners, the overall winning project is a pavilion designed and built by students that provides shelter for archaeologists in the Peru desert."

Interiors project of the year: Piazza Dell'Ufficio

"Piazza Dell'Ufficio by Branch Studio Architects has been named interiors project of the year, beating nine other category winners to scoop the accolade. The winner is a college administration office in Melbourne lined with cardboard tubes and inspired by Italian piazzas."

Design project of the year: Aguahoja I

"Aguahoja I by Mediated Matter Group at MIT Media Lab is the winner of design project of the year. The project is a digitally designed and robotically fabricated structure made using organic matter."

Architect of the year: Vo Trong Nghia Architects

"Vietnamese studio Vo Trong Nghia Architects has been selected as architect of the year. The master jury said the studio has "an acute awareness of the context that it is working in".

Interior designer of the year: SevilPeach

"London-based studio SevilPeach has been named interior designer of the year. Judges described the studio's work as "intelligent and skilfully put together".

Designer of the year: Studio Drift

"Amsterdam-based Studio Drift, led by by Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta, has won the award for designer of the year." "Studio Drift has consistently produced good work over the last two years," said the judges.

Emerging architect of the year: Edition Office

"Australian studio Edition Office is emerging architect of the year. The studio was chosen for its "rigorous exploration of material and form as a creative direction".

Emerging interior designer of the year: Linehouse

"Chinese studio Linehouse has won the award for emerging interior designer of the year. Judges described the studio's work as "energetic, playful and experimental".

Emerging designer of the year: Takt Project

"Japanese design studio Takt Project, led by Satoshi Yoshiizumi, has won the award for emerging designer of the year. Judges praised the studio for its "aesthetically and conceptually driven work".
