Manual Gautrand Architecture: Renovation of Galeries Lafayette Metz

The architect Manuelle Gautrand has completed the redevelopment of the building façades of the Galeries Lafayette Metz. Deep component of the urban fabric, the store was wrapped in a stone facade very withdrawn on itself. The architect chosen to create impressive canopy reference to glass works from the early twentieth century.

The Marquise develops along three sides of the building, in a flight of glass pleated a length of nearly 120 meters.A canopy of red color reminiscent identity Galeries Lafayette is positioned cantilever. Punctuated by a series of folds which are assembled one after the other, the Marquise is deployed in a large undulating movement. A canopy inspired by origami in its pace and almost chiselled lines. The stone then disappears, filtered by the colored glass, while the lower part of the building, located under the awning, is reconstructed glass alternating windows and lock entries.
