Presented in French
The principles of architectural composition—which precede “style” or can be construed according to different styles—were significant in mid-19th-century discourse on building theory. In contemporary times the erosion of the theoretical approach justifies the emergence of new principles. A breakthrough in the history of architectural theory, Jacques Lucan’s 2012 publicationComposition, Non-composition (Essays in Architecture) examines the history of “composition” in architecture. “Non-composition” is not an oppositional concept, but represents the attempt to move beyond compositional modes and hierarchy. This event is presented as part of an ongoing series of book presentations in the CCA Bookstore entitled Book Talks.
