Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur-based architecture practice Spacemen has added a circular stainless-steel rainbow cabin to the interior of a beauty store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Named Trove, the 830-square-metre store is located in the Pavilion Damansara Heights Mall in the heart of Kuala Lumpur and attracts visitors' attention with its circular rainbow cabin that showcases products inside.
The space invites guests to an immersive journey of discovery. Guests are invited to explore the space as one does when digging the ground in search of buried treasure.
Spacemen drawn a simple layout for the store and designed curved perimeter walls in rammed earth and coarse stucco which were sculpted to mimic textures of the ground.
"It draws inspiration from the notion of fingers rummaging through soil, revealing cascading layers along the walls that organically form display nooks for products," said the studio.
"Earthy-toned grey travertine clads the shopfront facade and the broken marble basin counter top," it added.
"The precise sterility of stainless-steel cabin stained with tragedy, romanticised with the fatigued elegance of organic rainbow rust. Herein lies a hidden treasure trove waiting to be discovered."
At the heart of the store, there is a circular stainless-steel cabin made of anodized rainbow finish glistening and waiting to be discovered. Inside the cabin, customers experience a thoughtfully-curated experiential "Scent Trove" with a vast and extensive range of perfumes.
"It was designed akin to a lab to allow customers to fully immerse themselves to experiment and discover their perfect scent," the studio explained.
The undulations and linear movements on the back wall create a stark contrast with the rainbow cabin in the middle and invite the customer into the space.
Floor plan
Spacemen created "an abstraction of a living tree" in the interior of a store in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
The firm also designed a beauty store that features soft delicate weaves made of soft white layers of fabric to reflect the brand's first product, which has been listed WAC's most-read interior design news in 2023.
