"All masterplans have complex data to bring together but it is important to be sure that every input will be working efficiently for the future" says Anja Ehrenfried, General Director, Citythinking S.L. by EDDEA.

Speaking at the Architecture of the Future Conference today, Ehrenfried has made a fascinating presentation with the emphasis on how the new digital tools cause architects and urbanists to create multi-phased masterplans in a more efficient way.

Ehrenfried stressed the importance of the new digital mediums and during her lecture she showed some examples of tools and methods that they used in their studio Citythinking introducing Smart Urban Ecosystem.

"To create a smart urban eco-system, a scientific approach is needed," said Ehrenfried. "If you are creating the most complex neighborhood in a masterplan, you have to provide the most efficient systems in this complexity," she added.

Anja Ehrenfried has delivered a presentation on the third day of the Architecture of the Future Conference under the topic "Disruptive Technologies Shaping the New Architecture" and sub-topic "Parametric Design".

The 3-day conference is bringing over 2000 attendees with lectures & discussions of recognized architects from all over the world. The topic of the second edition is "The Inevitable. Disruptive technologies shaping the future of the AES industry" - which is uniting 3 thematic days that fully reveal the latest trends in architectural design and construction.

Ehrenfried also added: "in our studio, we use digital tools, for example, one of them is "Parametric Smart Planning (PSP)" and it makes us to form different scenarios for different social neighborhoods or cultural differences." 

"Thanks to this tool, we can optimize different scenarios or urban typologies that can be adaptable for changing conditions of our time in the future."

Ehrenfried described their approach used in the studio as "smart urban eco-systems", according to Ehrenfried, the word of "smart" means is to create flexible and the most efficient layout that can be applied into other parts of the world. 

"With this tool, as long as optimize every input, you can apply it all over the world but still, you need to give the specific answer to different cultural needs and demands as related to that context," she explained.

"There are some unavoidable principles of eco-systemic urbanism, and we have a catalog of components for creating innovative urban models and we understand and apply every input according to these principles."

"In our approach, all these methods are fractal and indicate fractal urban processes."

First day discussed “Future of the City”, second day focused on “Future of Housing” and third day discusses “Disruptive Technologies Shaping the New Architecture”. 

Curated by Kyiv-based architect Dmytro Aranchii, founder of Dmytro Aranchii Architects, the 2nd edition of the conference is being held on October 9-11, 2019, in Kyiv, Ukraine

In a 30-min lecture, Ehrenfried briefly touched upon the current inability of urban design processes to cope with environmental pressures. 

She said: "growing demands force us to rethink urban development patterns as catalyst of value and prosperity."

"The city needs knowledge and tools to manage water and green in a way that facilitates robust, synergistic and multifunctional green urban infrastructure."

The main goal of the conference is to create a platform discussing the role of new technologies in architecture, urbanism and construction.
