"Collecting Bauhaus" International Conference is scheduled from 2nd – 5th December 2019 at the Bauhaus Building/Bauhaus Museum, Dessau. It is the final part of the centenary celebrations of the Bauhaus movement. The event shall focus on the ‘globally dispersed histories of objects and collections of the Bauhaus.’
Though, Bauhaus Archives at Weimar, Dessau and Berlin are the largest Bauhaus collections. The object and elements related to the Bauhaus Movement are spread all over the world. The closure of the school and dejection by the ‘National Socialist’ had led to the eventual collection of the 'Bauhaus' artefacts from across the globe.
The aim of the event is to reflect upon 'How the global interconnections can be made fruitful for a Bauhaus museum in the 21st century'
According to Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, "The conference "Collecting Bauhaus" shall show that the new Bauhaus Museum Dessau is part of a worldwide network of museums with Bauhaus collections". The program shall cater to ‘the multifaceted provenances of the collections and the varying exhibition and teaching strategies’, and on this basis, design issues of a ‘global Bauhaus historiography’ are intended to be discussed.
The Initiative of the "Collecting Bauhaus" is organized in cooperation with:
