Barcode Architects has been selected as one of five winning teams in the international competition for transforming the Nemunaičiai district in Kaunas, Lithuania.

The competition, which is organized by SBA Urban, is a significant milestone in the long-term growth of the southern riverside of the city. A new neighborhood made up of nine urban blocks situated between the city and the Nemunas River is introduced by the chosen idea, 9 River Tales.

Each block contributes to a diverse yet unified whole by responding to its surroundings with a unique architectural expression and spatial arrangement.

The proposal, which is backed by a strong ecological framework, combines offices, residences, and open public space.

By incorporating modern strategies for sustainability, mobility, and community use with Kaunas' historical heritage, the concept exhibits a multi-layered approach to urban development.

The plan places a strong emphasis on biodiversity and public space, incorporating river-facing terraces, green roofs, and inner courtyards.

Barcode Architects helped create the general concept and will remain involved in the development's architectural design. Together with Archispektras and the larger competition team, the proposal was created.

Barcode Architects completed the first residential block as part of MVRDV-designed masterplan in Hoofddorp, Hoofddorp, the Netherlands. In addition, the firm completed a new high-rise tower that features protruding triangular balconies to give an artisanal look and challenge to the conventional high-rise typologies in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
