Steven Holl: ‘’today nobody teaches the values of form’’

Steven Holl Architects released new video titled ‘’Educating Architecture’’ , including intimate conversation with a Greek architect and teacher Elia Zenghelis in the 32BNY series. This video series are presented under the title of ‘’Videopolemics’’ that focuses on architecture and urbanism. In conversation, Steven Holl and Elia Zenghelis speaks about ‘’architecture without client’’ by evaluating Steven Holl’s Gymnasium Bridge and Bridge of Houses project in New York including Sixteen Villas on the Island of Antiparos, Greece designed by Elia Zenghelis and Zoe Zenghelis. In addition, Zenghelis talked about his experience while collaborating with Rem Koolhaas and Zaha Hadid in 1970s and he says that ‘’Zaha was not just doing drawings but she was quite active.’’
Elia Zenghelis also talked about his passion about drawing and ‘’drawings are the automatic movement of the hunt’’ and ‘’it’s a sort of drug’ added Zenghelis. Moreover, Holl and Zenghelis evaluated the value of ‘’formalism’’ in architecture and ‘’whether it is relevant or not , you want to see them done’’ stressed the value of form in architecture and ‘’architectural form is a contribution to the making of the city’’ added Zenghelis, on the other hand Holl said that ‘’today nobody teaches the values of form’’.
