A Missionary at Home - A Representative Abroad: The life of the intellectuals from a peripheral origin means "double disadvantage, double nostalgia and double privilege" at the same time. Gone through a modernist Western education they feel nowhere at home, but represent "the Other" anywhere. They are not proficient to merge into social life, but live in their isolated colonies. As they are celebrated as the elite at home they are appreciated as the exotic in the Western world.
