Middle East Technical University, Department of Architecture is proud to be a part of the Tokyo Designers Week 2013. “3 Millimetres - 3 Metres - 3 Kilometres” exhibition can be visited during the Tokyo Designers Week '13 in Meiji-Jingu Gaien Mae Venue, Tokyo.
Imperfection inevitably contains perfection. Perfect is an ultimate state which cannot be improved any further. The term “imperfection” however, connotes the state of being “not perfect.” It is not perfect, but it is still beautiful… it is not perfect, but it is still intact… it is not perfect, but it is still white… it is not perfect, but it is still transparent… it is not perfect, but still... it can be…
The reason for the projects developed by the students of METU Department of Architecture is not to conceal imperfection, but to seek the tools to capture just one step before the perfect. “About to be perfect” will be introduced as a new architectural “scale” where various other scales will be presented in the students’ works.
“3 Millimetres - 3 Metres - 3 Kilometres” is the subject of an international workshops. The workshop organized under the supervision of instructors from C.A.S.T. in Canada, and from METU in Turkey, expands the limits of conventional mold-cast production. In the workshop, the tools used to reach perfection have been utilized at architectural scales where the end products would always be imperfect.
