The School of Philosophy and Art History at the University of Essex invites applications for the post of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader, in the area of Art History. The postholder will be expected to  carry out a vigorous programme of independent research, to contribute to teaching and supervision activities within the School, and to participate in the usual range of administrative duties. The post-holder will be expected to contribute research, teaching and
supervision in at least one of the following areas: Art, Human Rights and Politics; Art and Philosophy; Lens-Based Media; Art, Data and the Digital Humanities; Art and the Medical Humanities; Art and Landscape.

Essential qualifications include: a PhD (or one awaiting examination) in Art History or a related discipline, or professional experience; evidence of research excellence; experience of teaching in a higher education environment or the demonstrable potential to achieve this. In addition for appointment at Senior Lecturer/ Reader, candidates will be  expected to have proven track record of recognised research accomplishment, the ability to play a leadership role within the School, and the ability to contribute to the generation of externally funded research and knowledge-exchange initiatives.

Within the parameters specified above, we welcome applications from candidates working on any period of the history of art (up to and including the present) and on any artistic tradition (including both Western and non-Western art).
