Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group have officially announced Fifty Five Hudson Yards, the third KPF-designed tower to join the 28-acre Hudson Yards development.
The conceptual design of the building is a joint venture between Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo and Associates. KRJDA served as an early design consultant, while KPF will continue on the project as Design Architect.
The collaboration came about as Related sought to cultivate a range of aesthetics on the site. It is the first time that Mr. Kohn and Mr. Roche have worked together.
Fittingly, KPF was inspired by Mr. Roche’s 1960s-era Ford Foundation building in midtown Manhattan. Gene Kohn states, "I always loved his expression of the tower of that building, the sense of elegance and strength. It expressed structure in the way we were trying to do."
KPF is also responsible for the Hudson Yards master plan, as well as design of 10 Hudson Yards and 30 Hudson Yards.
