Buenos Aires and Berlin-based architecture practice Jasper Architects has designed one-room and two-room terraced bungalows nestled within the landscape in Samaná, Dominican Republic.
Called Rincon Retreat, the luxury resort is now under construction in Samaná and half of the structure is almost complete at site. Developed by Rincon Retreat, the resort is located on a secluded beach and lush forest area in Samaná to integrate existing culture through architecture, materiality and lifestyle.
The architects have designed private one-and two-room bungalows, which will commonly function as a social pavilion, a beach club and a staff house, connecting all constructed environments via natural pathways through the jungle.
"With a focus on ecology and tranquility, the only motorized movement at the 37-acre (15 hectares) resort are electrical ATVs. If taking a break from the private infinity pools or massage and meditation rooms, guests have "secret places" sited on cliffs and more remote areas to catch experiential views of the ocean and surrounding landscape," said Jasper Architects.
The buildings, covering a total of 8,000-square-metre area, are made of concrete with horizonal marble, stone and wood cladding. Uniquely, the visible materials like stone and wood are locally produced and all natural stone is being quarried near the property.
The interiors are kept minimal, with special care for simple lines and authenticity in the use of materials. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019. The firm won an invited competition to design a boutique resort and project started in 2016.
