Renzo Piano's firm Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) is about to complete its first residential complex on Miami Beach and the building's penthouse reportedly came to market as "Miami's most expensive penthouse" for $68 million.

Named Eighty Seven Park, the 200-meter high residential complex consists the largest penthouse space for sale in Miami combined with the indoor and outdoor space square footage. The penthouse rooftop also contains infinity swimming pools at an elevation of 200’, with associated pool decks, taking advantage of a 360-degree view. 

According to Forbes, 80% of the units were already sold, and famous tennis player Novak Djokovic purchased this six-bedroom and 11-bathroom condo placed on the 18th floor of the building. 

RPBW first released its conceptual images in 2015 and the building is expected to be completed in early 2019, according to Golden Dusk Photography. The tower, featuring smooth curves on the front facade, includes 70 villas suspended in the clear ocean light, Piano's fluid design brings together architecture, design and the natural landscape.

Situated at the last piece of land north of North Shore Open Space Park at the limit of the city of Miami Beach, the project minimizes the footprint of the building to create more space for greenery on the ground floor. And, orienting the building on east-west axis and maximizing the views from Harding Avenue and Collins Avenue towards the ocean were the key design principles for the architect.

"The main idea of the project is to enhance the presence of the green space in the area of North Shore Park, by extending the green area to the 87th Terrace at the northern limit of the project site," stated RPBW in the project brief.

The building contains approximately 202,000 gross square feet (18,766 square meters) separated into three different spaces: the lobby and ground floor amenities spaces within the park, the residential tower, and the rooftop deck.

"The ground floor is the key element for connecting the north to the south green spaces," added the firm. "It is transparent and fitted with a generous presence of trees, so the North Shore Park invades the ground floor, lifting up the building, crossing the lobby to create the north garden."

For the architectural language of the building, the architect expresses lightness, transparency and luminosity, with respect to the environment. The building is intended to be contemporary, and will communicate the craftsman’s spirit. 

The dignity and integrity of the building are expressed through advanced details and technical know-how. The building is made of concrete, structural aluminum elements, glass, wood, and greenery.

In the interiors, the architect uses much more pastel-toned and natural materials such as American oak, Italian stone and crystal clear walls of glass lend beauty and elegance to each residence. For the connection with the indoor and outdoor spaces, generous wraparound terraces create a seamless transition from indoor to outdoor spaces. 

The building will appear to be levitating above the trees. It is simply made with 16 decks, fitted with villas, suspended between water and green space. It is in the middle of a park watching the sea, capturing its sound.

The architect also designed a mechanical pavilion as well as amenities pavilion, and pool-side cabanas, which are all integrated within the greenery of the garden. Developed by Terra and Bizzi & Partners, the project is expected to be opened in early 2019.
