To mark the 47th birthday of Coop Himmelb(l)au Wolf D. Prix & Partner, the exhibition is presenting three of the studio’s latest projects, namely the new European Central Bank building in Frankfurt/Main, the Musée des Confluences in Lyon, France, and the Dalian International Conference Center in China.
“Baucooperative Himmelblau”, as it was called then, was founded on May 6, 1968. It was a response to the predominance of rectilinear grids. The studio set out instead to liberate architecture at least from its functional confines by rendering space more dynamic, and if possible, overcoming gravity.Nowadays Coop Himmelb(l)au has long been an international player on the architecture scene. Yet then as now, the Vienna-based studio headed by Wolf D. Prix champions passionate structures and emotionalized architecture. To mark the 47th birthday of Coop Himmelb(l)au, the exhibition is presenting three of the studio’s latest projects, namely the new European Central Bank building in Frankfurt/Main, inaugurated on March 18, 2015, the Musée des Confluences in Lyon, France, which opened at the end of December last year and the Dalian International Conference Center in China (2012).
