The well-known Italian architectural practice Mario Cucinella Architects has created a new exhibition space for the cultural Golinelli Foundation, located in the city of Bologna, Northern Italy.

The project was aimed at providing the city of Bologna a new public space for sharing and learning activities, where science and art are the key elements of exhibitions, shows, interactive tours and other kinds of public initiatives. A theme that is particularly relevant for the founder of the Golinelli Foundation, Marino Golinelli.

Art and Science are inseparable elements in the process of knowledge of every human being and they historically led to the most meaningful works for the artists, which expresses itself through its public spaces but, at the same time gives these spaces a meaning, for they could not exist without it.

The idea of matching together in a space arts and science,  means to  develop the intention of representing the scientific and artistic evolution of human disciplines that are in perpetual becoming, founding their intentions on research and constant experimentation.

The architectural project draws inspiration from the story of the evolution. The building concept is simple and it is composed of two essential elements.

The first element is an enclosed volume - the "core" of the pavilion - where the most important activities will take place. The pure and semi-transparent geometry of this space will reflect the surroundings during the day, while being bright at night. The other element is the metal and modular structure that wrap the pavilion giving shape to the space.

The exhibition space has a rectangular geometry –30x20 m and 8 m in height. A big space of 700 square meters with a treated concrete floor with no partitions or rigid planimetric subdivision to allow maximum flexibility. This area will be the place where the Foundation will promote its several and different activities: exhibition, conferences, shows, concerts and projections can easily take place and gradually change over time, always evolving themselves to keep abreast of the times.
