The architect Sérgio Magalhães was reelected on the morning of Friday, August 29, president of the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB). Only candidate for the post, Magellan received 51 votes, the 56 valid. The election took place at the 146th meeting of the Supreme Council of the IAB (Cosu), which is held at the Convention Center Ulysses Guimarães in Brasilia.

After the count, the reelected president reaffirmed his commitment to the preservation of a management focused on strengthening the IAB, which is moving with freedom and autonomy for its centenary. "We will work towards the appreciation of architecture and architectural culture in the country, for the improvement and qualification of the Brazilian built space and the democratization of the city," he said.

The realization of the UIA World Congress in Rio de Janeiro in 2020, will have special attention in this new management. "We will spare no efforts in designing and implementing a program of reflection, discussion and interaction on architecture, architectural culture and the Brazilian urban reality. Our goal is to provide a corresponding ideas to the challenges of development and democracy in the 21st century, "argued Sérgio Magalhães.

In the administration of the IAB, Iran Dudeque continues as vice president; Fabiana Izaga assumes the post of general secretary; and Jeronimo de Moraes, secretary in the previous administration, starts to respond by institutional relations portfolio. The board has undergone minor changes: the position of director of the UIA Congress 2020 was created and will be occupied by Peter the Light; Norma Taulois proceeds to answer the administrative and financial management;ECSC Guimaraens and continues as a cultural director.

The extraordinary number of vice presidents shrank from five to four. Rose Guedes (IAB-MG), José de Brito Cruz Armenian (IABsp) and James Holzmann (IAB-RS) remain outstanding as vice-presidents. The novelty is Solange Araújo (IAB-BA), which occupies the place of Nivaldo Vieira de Andrade Jr.

Rounding out the management of the National Board of the IAB Thiago de Andrade (institutional vice-president), Lucas Mali (Vice President Midwest), Claudemir Andrade (VP Northern Region) and Fabiano de Melo architects (Vice President Northeast Region ).
