The Romsdal Folk Museum houses local art, international architecture, historical footage displays as well as a café and museum shop, referring to the history and identity of its own context.
The new building bears the traces of historical houses in the town street ”Bygata”, which are the typical molde town houses from the pre-war era- The museum is comprised of a very sharp edges, very rigid roof lines harmonized with undulating form reviving on local materials, which is now ready to visit!
Reiulf Ramstad Architects’ Romsdal Folk Museum has become an architectonic attraction and a treasured landmark which embodies a whole region’s history and identity. The intention is to let the structure signal its meaning and function through an architectural expression and the use of place-specific materials.
It should convey an open and progressive attitude that makes diverse utilization possible. The range of perspectives and activities will ensure a broad audience, with the museum becoming a living centre for the exploration of the region’s history, contemporary culture, and even future. The Romsdal Museum was established in 1912, and displays buildings and interesting interiors from the local region.
