Pritzker Chief Martha Thorne Appointed Dean of IE School of Architecture and Design

Martha Thorne has been appointed as dean of the IE School of Architecture and Design in Madrid. Thorne is also executive director of the international architecture prize for the last decade, takes up her new role at the business-oriented IE School of Architecture & Design this autumn. She will also retain her Pritzker role. According to BD Online reports, “Her appointment as dean of IE School of Architecture and Design will serve to further the school’s aim to bring the best of innovation and management to architectural disciplines.”
“Martha Thorne’s commitment to international architectural education and her expertise in the global architecture market have made her a reference worldwide within the industry, says Santiago Iñiguez, president of IE University. In addition, Thorne has been on the school’s management team since its inception, was previously associate curator of the department of architecture at The Art Institute of Chicago from 1996 to 2005 and she has several books, holds a masters in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania and a first degree in urban affairs from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
