There is a terrace house whose entire redbrick front, as if too exhausted to hold itself up anymore, has slipped away from its frame and lies slumped in its own front garden. A Vauxhall Corsa is going nowhere, because the tarmac it’s on has curled right up and over, leaving it suspended, cartoon-like, completely upside-down.
