Balaji Rajasekaran is an architect, researcher, maker, and academician who is the principal of dMac. He is a graduate of the Design Research Lab (DRL) at Architectural Association (AA) School of Architecture, London with a Master’s degree (M.Arch);
He is now teaching at CEPT University as a Visiting Faculty and worked as a visiting faculty at C.A.R.E School of Architecture, Trichy. He is a part of the International Review Committee of research organisations like CAADRIA, Institute of Scholars, etc., and a few architectural schools in Tamilnadu. He has been appointed as a ‘Mentor of Change’ by Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), Government of India for Atal Tinkering Labs for a few schools in which he is volunteering to enable students to experience, learn and practise future skills such as design thinking and computational thinking.
His research investigates the idea of a multi- disciplinary design approach; borrowing techniques and tools from various disciplines such as biology, physics, mathematics, computer graphics, machine learning, & digital fabrication. His research explores Synergies between Form, Forces, Material and Construction. He believes that technology is for the people and his research attempts to democratize cutting-edge technological advancements, ensuring its accessibility to all strata of society and it serves to everyone. His interest lies in computational theories and computation as a thinking process.
His project were recognised at various international awards such as World Architecture Community Award, World Architecture Festival, etc., His projects/research were published in various International magazines/journals such as World Building Directory, World Architecture Community, Designboom, IASS, Etc., Recently, He was awarded the Young Architect of the Year 2023 by Indian Institute of Architects (IIA). His practise received “Progressive Architectural Practice” by PIAR - Parul University.
