A Robert Venturi-designed house on Long Beach Island, N.J., has been saved from demolition by moving it to Long Island, N.Y. The Lieb House—designed by Venturi, FAIA, Int. FRIBA, in 1969—has been studied extensively as a modernist archetype and was in danger of being torn down by its previous owner. A rescue plan was devised to sell it to a buyer willing to relocate the structure. The new owners of the Lieb House, fans of Venturi`s work, arranged for the house to be moved by barge up the East River to the new site in Glen Cove on Long Island. On March 13, the Lieb House made its journey.
