Today is World Architecture Day-5 October 2015 and The International Union of Architects (UIA), representing the world’s 1.3 million architects, has announced the theme of World Architecture Day: Architecture, Building, Climate. UIA members, working bodies and partners will mobilize on 5 October to promote actions and solutions that apply the enormous power of architecture and urban design in coping with global climate change, one of the greatest challenges of our time. In addition, according to the latest UIA news, among UIA members, some of them informed them of the celebration of the WAD in their countries: Australia in Sydney opera House and Costa Rica. UIA is also preparing a mini web site devoted to UIA members contributions to Climate change mitigation.

Hear also how Australian architects are making a difference here and around the world - experiencing massive growth thanks to rapid urbanisation in our region. Consider the words of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on 15 September 2015:
"China's rapid urbanisation has led to 80 Australian architectural studios opening up in china, with a further 220 Australian firms winning work. A good example is Cox Rayner Architects which recently won a competition to design china’s 290m national maritime museum - beating a field of 80 of the worlds leading design firms in Tianjin".
Help us map and share how Australian architects are engaged and embedded around the world – embraced for our unique multicultural outlook on life, and with a reputation as highly skilled design professionals able to work in collaboration with governments, financiers, agencies and organizations in every context.
And what better way to close the morning than with the announcement of the 2015 Architects Medallion? A real statement on the future of architecture through the eye of the next generation of architects.
Speakers: Kim Herforth Neilsen (3XN), Dario Spralja (PTW), Joe Agius (Cox Architecture), Zoey Chen (Hassell), Ross Donaldson (Woods Bagot), Matthew Blair (BVN)
