Brexit Shrine | A Place To Remember, Engage and Heal
The monument consists of three components: a place for contemplation, the dreams graveyard and a public graffiti wall where you can express ones feelings.
The contemplation space faces a sculpture with 27 protrusions (representing the remaining EU members) one of them is leaking water into a pool at the foot of the monument, and 1 cavity.
The graveyard is a very tight isolated space within the monument with an intentionally narrow horizon and the sound of the dripping water comes in through the cavity an is amplified by the sense of isolation.
The graffiti wall is the place for the public to engage by expressing their sentiments with everyone viewing the monument.
The monument is 22.5m high and 62.6m wide and 8m thick and made of cast-in-situe concrete to simplify construction & reduce the cost. Further study of traffic movement & parking for visitors is required.
