Wafer BOX pavilion 2020

The pavilion functions as an architectural installation and public furniture. The object can be located anywhere in the world and function as needed. The installation offers variable use and the organization of public recreational events. The pavilion can be a city information box, a stop for cross-country skiing or cycling, or a shading installation by the sea. The installation offers a 360-degree view. The concept consists of two wafers with inserted boxes. The platform at seat height is wheelchair accessible and contains an info panel, a presentation area, a library or lockable cabinets with chargers. The integrated bookcase also hides the seating boxes. The inset box functions as a kiosk or storage space. The installation offers variable use and the organization of public recreational events.

But is it supposed to be a boring information board or a playful architectural installation? The design is energy self-sufficient and carbon zero. The building produces all of its own energy with the help of an integrated PV roof covering. The energy is used publicly for the needs of visitors or the operation of the kiosk.

The building is based on ground screws without concrete. Two wafers form a wooden lattice structure. Vertical and inclined columns are supporting. The object is reinforced with hinges and diagonals. Inserted elements are made of OSB boards and wooden frame. The second part of the roof is made of recycled polycarbonate.

After its lifetime, the object is fully recyclable and does not create any waste.
