Metamorphosis of the parabolic space
Parabolic space perspective methamorphosis, or methamorfose, might be read as the reconfiguration of perception itself, either by observer changes in position along space, either by objects reflections or position in Euclidean space such as this Patio in which the full sense of rigorous perspective can be experienced.
This gradual and ever-changing expanding repertoire of spherical suspended black objects, composed by ordinary balloons, organized in arch form along an axis from the outside of the monastery complex, until reach the interior “Patio” and divide themselves in two parallel structures in a way that observer will be catch by the surprise by looking at this structures trough the pyramidal mirror before physically reach them. By this it is allied several optical phenomenon such as perspective, reflection, optics and optical illusion, here with a central role as an element for achieve the spatial methamorphose of space by visual distortion of reality.
The balloons actively model the space and light, shadow and light shape offering a different experience both space and viewings as well the ever-changing perspective views altered by the mirror form in the center of the composition which represents de fascination for physical process and movement allied to senses, mind thoughts, provoking continuous different viewpoints, accordingly perspective definition itself: be it the metamorphosis in ourselves as observers or the “Patio” inner space where we are at that moment in time.
In each way we can say that there is a deconstruction in the static equilibrium of “Patio’s” perspective and, therefore its metamorphosis is potentiated by the inter-relationship between all the elements as well by the dark colours used to infatuate and add the “chiaro-oscuro” effect on the scene, as well by projecting in the Patio´s floor the balloons shadow in a black and white chess pattern similar to the existing one tile pattern in upper floors.
Both effects, balloon shadows and its reflections in central mirror are not visible immediately neither in all positions, by contrary these effects are an surprising element only perceived and experienced after being viewed at the mirror.
