Global Studio began in Turkey when it offered sessions in the 2005 UIA Congress, and the Zeyrek studio. Since then it has held programs to promote participatory design and planning in disadvantaged communities: in Vancouver's downtown Eastside (’06), Diepsloot township, Johannesburg (‘07, ’08, ‘09) and Bhopal (’12). Since 2005, over 600 participants including urban professionals, community organizations, and students and academics from 66 universities, over 30 countries and 10 disciplines have attended its programs. Over the past year Global Studio has been busy with a traveling exhibition, in collaboration with the Centre for Sustainable Urban Development at Columbia University.
The Global Studio - CSUD exhibition, People Building Better Cities: Participation and Inclusive Urbanization traveled to 5 countries in the first half of the year. `
