As the Venice Biennale opens this week, CCA invite visitors to the Swiss pavilion at the Giardini, where Lucius Burckhardt and Cedric Price – A stroll through a fun palace, a project by Hans Ulrich Obrist presented in collaboration with the CCA, is on display.

The work of economist and sociologist Lucius Burckhardt, who is known for developing “strollology”- the science of the walk—is presented alongside selections from six of Cedric Price’s projects (curated by CCADirector Mirko Zardini), including the unrealised Fun Palace, a giant toy/large-sized transformable machine with the goal of “enable[ing] people to think the unthinkable.”

“It was well into the detailed design of the project that, at an alcohol-inspired brain-storming session off Times Square in 1962, we decided on the name Fun Palace for our short-life conglomerate of disparate, free-choice, free-time, voluntary activities, planned as a public launching-pad rather than a Mecca for East London,” Cedric Price said in 1990 in recordings from Talks at the Architectural Association.
