The Wolfsonian-Florida International University museum is a bastion in Miami Beach of what it once called “thinkism.” From March 20 through 23, it will host its first Power of Design festival, with big-time thinkers like the computer scientist Jaron Lanier, the author of “Who Owns the Future?,” and Kurt Andersen, the “Studio 360” radio show host. The subject will be complaint as a source of inspiration. “It’s not a gripe fest; it’s a solution fest,” said Cathy Leff, the museum’s outgoing director. “So many people like the TEDs, and the PechaKuchas,” she added, referring to two forms of fast-paced, information-stuffed presentations. Events free and open to the public include a “complaints choir,” on March 20; a show of original posters curated by the graphic designer Steven Heller; and “Prophets of the Digital Age,” a March 22 conversation with Mr. Lanier, the novelist Michael Chabon and the technology writer Clive Thompson.
