MACH Arquitectos has renovated a low-lying traditional house in the charming village of Pals, Spain.
Named Mas La Font, the house is located on the boundary between the village of Pals and its outskirts. The house stands as a picturesque spot surrounded by fields and green landscapes.
With the peacefulness of nature as a backdrop, the place is a harmonious blend of traditional charm and rural serenity.
The project consists of two main buildings, the main house and the annexe. The first is a traditional Catalan farmhouse construction, while the second is a building used mainly for rice storage and stables.
The two pieces are located between two different levels that define the character of the garden.
From the outset, the project is approached from the landscape point of view and the relationship between the existing buildings, while considering the new elements that will emerge.
The project emphasises the views between the different volumes, as well as in relation to the village of Pals as a backdrop.
The new interventions on the existing architecture seek to blur, replicating old ways of building that sometimes re-emerge as contemporary aspects. Thus, the intervention is after to recover the original character of the house, vindicating the work of local craftsmen.
Occasionally some elements stand out above the intervention for their language, design, and colour, emphasising the contrast between the new and the old.
MACH also completed Collumpio House, a yellow-painted steel structure catches passersby's eye on a sloping street in Barcelona, Spain.
