Biotoopia Conference is a series of conferences and art events in Estonia that seeks to build networks between the arts, sciences and biotic communities.
The 2021 Biotoopia Conference will be organized as a hybrid event between 26-28 August at Viinistu Art Museum, in an historical fishing village in Viinistu, Estonia.
The organizers borrowed the name from the 1995 exhibition BIOTOOPIA, curated by Sirje Helme, Eha Komissarov and Ando Keskküla, and they continue developing its themes.
The first Biotoopia Conference will focus on ecosystems and biodiversity – the interactions, communications and appearances of intellect within ecological communities.
Speakers include scientists, biologists, artists, philosophers and posthumanists, such as scientist Grete Arro from Tallinn University, culture historian Ewa Domanska from Adam Mickiewicz University Polish Academy of Sciences, Stanford University, biologist and writer Andreas Weber, artist Timur Si-Qin from Germany, philosopher Margus Ott from Tallinn University.
The conference program also includes art walks and artist talks, panel discussions, hiking in nature with Rein Kuresoo, documentary “Fred Jüssi. The Beauty of Being”.
The event will present online format on 26th and 27 August (UTC+03) in live almost all of the physical conference programme held in Viinistu, Estonia. Participants will experience online even the art programme and can actively participate in discussion boards.
