Spanish architecture firm Carquero Arquitectura has completed a new municipal library in the city of Granada, Spain, the rounded building is covered by a changing color platte of pink on floors and walls.
Called Municipal Library of Dólar, the 124-squuare-metre building is situated in the southern perimeter of the municipality of the Guadix region, with an arch that opens to the rural landscape in the Sierra Nevada skirt and attached to a linear dividing wall.
The building's functions are distributed on a single floor, diaphanous and functional, organizing the service nuclei to the east and the open playroom space to the landscape to the west.
"Following the organic layout, the main body is deployed to create an outer space linked to the central core of games. The red and white linoleum flooring establishes the zoning of the program," said Carquero Arquitectura.
"To provide a greater spatial richness, according to its function, the floor slabs are fragmented following a compositional scheme, introducing natural light and ventilation to the main core," added the architects.
For the construction, the library was built with a low budget, using a mixed structure of steel and concrete, thermo-clay enclosures and coatings of lime mortar, plaster and linoleum plaster. The facilities are basic hiding the outdoor units taking advantage of the unevenness of the lower floor.
