Call For Registrations To "MateraLab" 3-Day Workshop In Sassi District, Italy

STaRT, in collaboration with the INSTAURA platform, organises a three-day worksop called "MateraLab" in Sassi District, the ancient heart of the city of Matera, Italy. The workshop will discuss methods and potentials for the insertion of contemporary architecture in historical contexts.
The three-day meeting will be held between 27 and 29 July, 2018, a period in which debates, guided tours and project experiences will characterize the duration of the entire event.
The workshop is open to all students of the Faculties of Architecture, Archeology, Engineering, Design, all the Schools related to Cultural Heritage and Landscape. Undergraduates and graduates without age limits can also participate. Everything is thought to make cultural exchange more interesting.The workshop will officially be activate when the minimum number of 50 members will be reached. As a higher limit of accessions, the maximum number of 80 entries can not be exceeded.
Theme
Matera is a place of great uniqueness in the world for the presence of ancient rock settlements and was the first site of Southern Italy to be named UNESCO heritage in 1993.
The cultural landscape defines and shapes an extraordinary city, remembered with the name "Città dei Sassi" from the denomination of the residential nucleus obtained in from the living rock.
Few months ago, in this context of ancient charm, we have imagined through a competition of ideas, the new Museum of Culture, a ensemble of traditions able to best enhance the needs of the Lucan identity. In continuity with the work started, the workshop will deepen the project for the exhibition pavilion, working on the definition of the volume, spaces and fittings. Local professionals - historians and architects - will support the initiative aimed to improve the identity of the rural peasant culture.
The winner of the contest "Matera, city of culture", will intervene to better explain the phases that guided the design process to support the participants in the development of the idea for the new pavilion.
Registrations
Registrations will start from the publication of the following announcement and are open until 9 July 2018. The methods:
Special registration: from 01 to 31 May 2018; the fee is 90.00 euros per participant
Regular registrations: from 01 June to 9 July 2018; the fee is 120.00 euros per participant
For those who participated in the contest of STaRT and INSTAURA and the groups that will take registration in unique solution is expected a reduction of 20% on the participation fee.

The exhibition pavilion will be built near the Gravina one of the main accesses of the Sassi district.
Program
Friday 27th of July 2018/10.00 am
First meeting, official opening of MateraLab, presentation of the workshop and tutors: STUDIO MANCA, MARIMA DE PACE architect, PIERANGELO LATERZA photographer, MARCO LATERZA architect, INSTAURA & STaRT team architect.
3.00 pm: We will explore Casa Cava, renovation project in ancient district with Renato La Macchia Architect.
6.00 pm: We will know Matera history with a tour in Sassi district.
Day 2/Saturday 28th of July 2018
10.00 am: Start of projectual work.
12.00 am: We will meet the winners of Contest “Matera: City of Culture”
2.00 pm: Lunch break and new phase of work.
6.00 pm: Conclusion of the work and evening in the heart of the Sassi, we wait for the blue hour with breakfast bag.
Day 3/Sunday 29th of July 2018
10.00 am: Start of projectual work.
1.00 pm: Lunch break and new phase of work.
3.00 pm: Closing: Presentation of projects and delivery of participation certificates.
A prize of 500.00 (VAT excluded) euros will be assigned to the best project. All the projects will be inserted on the web pages of the organizers STaRT and INSTAURA. At the end of the experience will be issued certificates of participation.
