Egypt to construct Cairo Eye, the largest wheel in Africa

An announcement made by Hawai for Tourism and Investment for the launching of the Cairo Eye project. Cairo Eye is the name of the first observation wheel in Cairo and the largest wheel in the African continent. The location of Cairo Eye is to overlook the Nile River in the heart of Cairo approximately to the key Egyptian touristic sightseeing and destinations, standing at 120 meters high.

The project is determined to launch in 2022 aligning with Egypt’s vision 2030 and the government’s strategic cross-sector development plan. The project is to be an iconic landmark of modern Cairo and the succeeding touristic destination.

A statement made by Mr. Ahmed Metwally, Chairman of Hawai for Tourism and Investment indicating that the new project is to be considered a significant jump in the entertainment and tourism sector analogous to worldwide landmarks in foremost capitals and countries. He further added that the project is intended to attract millions of visitors on an annual basis and hundreds of thousands of tourists, bettering the tourism sector greatly in Egypt in addition to uplifting the flux of foreign currency.

Cairo Eye is to be the biggest wheel in Africa and the fifth-largest wheel around the world after London, Dubai, Las Vegas, and Singapore. Recognized to be an iconic landmark in Egypt, will a unique panoramic view of the city will be seen from a distance of 50 km and oversee the landmarks of Egypt. The wheel includes 48 cabins with a capacity of 6-8 individuals each. The target visiting number is 2.5 million visitors per annum. The new hub will seek to perform as an integrated touristic and entertainment destination, aspiring to deliver an outstanding entertainment experience in the heart of Cairo.

The environmental aspects have been taken into consideration when the project designed. The aspects entail the preservation of all the park’s existing trees and palm trees to still be attached to the legacy and identity of the Zamalek area. the design additionally purposes to raise the overall green spaces by 15% from 6,100 square meters currently to 7,000 square meters instead as elucidated by Metwally.

A well-attentive study to the area has been put assuring the flow of traffic management to evade any possible congestion. With the presence of Cairo Eye Nile Taxi, hop-on/hop-off Cairo Eye buses, and a ground car park with a capacity of 500 cars, commuting to and from the Cairo Eye will be easier.
