MEAL*, a sister online initiative of MEAN*, has announced the third edition of "Live Academy", a Virtual Design Learning Program, bringing together the brightest minds in architecture and design from around the world, to meet and exchange their ideas of the future.
The third edition started on Sunday 22 November and will continue until Saturday 19 December 2020. Previous editions of Live Academy can be seen on this page and this page.
In the third edition, Nader Tehrani, Founding Principal of NADAAA, Michael Young and Kutan Ayata, founders of Young & Ayata are among the speakers, while Filippo Nassetti of MHOX, Dimitar Pouchnikov from HOK, Juney Lee from the Block Research Group of ETH Zurich will be giving online classes.
"New adaptations to work, education, and knowledge exchange have rapidly emerged over the past few months and have become part of our 'new normal'," said MEAL*.
MEAL* (Middle East Architecture Lab), initiated by Dubai-based architect, entrepreneur and researcher Riyad Joucka, Founder of MEAN*, has seized this moment and developed 'Live Academy' to bring together the brightest minds in architecture and design from around the world, to meet and exchange their ideas of the future.
Live Academy is an online project and its program focuses on democratizing global access to revolutionary design concepts and technical expertise.
In its third edition, Semester 3 takes place over 4 weeks. Every week, architects with outstanding innovative work will present their projects in an online lecture for 1 hour.
The lectures are open to all, followed by live questions from the audience and can be watched on MEAL*'s Youtube channel. You can see the whole program on MEAL*'s website.
Two classes by global experts focused on different computational design software will follow every week in the format of a live webinar over 4 hours.
For this new online experience, for an opportunity to learn, develop, and exchange ideas.
Filippo Nassetti will deliver an advanced class on December 26, 2020. Filippo Nassetti is an architect and generative designer.
His design agenda was initiated in 2012 by co-founding MHOX, a EU-funded research practice and start-up focused on the design of radical artefacts and wearable products through computational techniques and 3d printing.
The contribution of MHOX to generative design gained international recognition through a number of experimental projects.
Juney Lee will deliver an advanced online class on December 8, 2020. Dr. Juney Lee is a lecturer and postdoctoral researcher at the Block Research Group of ETH Zurich in Switzerland.
He has a Master of Architecture and Master of Structural Engineering degrees from MIT, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from UC Berkeley.
Vincenzo Reale will deliver an advances online class on December 19, 2020. Vincenzo Reale is a chartered structural engineer (ICE) and architect (ARB). He holds a master's degree with distinction in Structural Engineering and Architecture from the University of Bologna and a Master of Science from the Architectural Association in London.
