Award-winning architectural design firm Abin Design Studio joins hands to make another remarkable design in West Bengal. Their out of the box design approach has won them many recognitions since their inception.

The House of Sweeping Shadow explores the idea of identity through interstitial space in post-construction architecture. The client exposed to a new visual culture, came to the studio wanting a contemporary manifestation for his next house.

The in-house pool

The challenge -  the house was already half-built. Decks were added to increase floor area and introduce the concept of semi-open space. It was wrapped with an MS screen. Designed as a curved, louvered surface, the crafted metal facade casts mesmerizing shadows in the interior spaces. There is a soft play of light and shade as the sun moves across the horizon through the day. Rectilinear punctuations along the curve, crafted as this lamina surfaces using sheet metal, strategically open out the spaces to the idyllic views outside.

The sunken sit-out is contrastingly rendered in pigmented concrete complemented with views of the pool, verdant plant-beds, and the aviary.

The combination of masses of varied scales, bold metal facade with the soft verdant landscape, and the dark hues complementing the open skies over the reflective water body make for a serene, modern extension to the client's residence.
