Plans have been revealed for the tallest tower of Western Europe designed by Danish firm Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter. The 309,7-metre tower designed for a fashion company BESTSELLER will be built in Brande, a rural Danish town in the middle of Jutland, in which the new buildings will dominate as a landmark. The building will be the tallest in Western Europe after Renzo Piano's The Shard (reaching 240 meter above street level).

The plans have recently been approved by the City Council but there has not yet been set a date for the project start, but it is expected to begin construction in 2019 at the earliest. It is slated to be completed in 2023.

Situated at the foot of the tower there will be a series of new buildings constituting a new town, all with planted rooftops, mimicking the landscape from which they grow.

Dorte Mandrup's design intended to transform the idea of classical headquarters that would accommodate head offices of the company. Named Tower & Village, the design features gridded layout that is applied on a plan and facade configuration which gives en elegant view and softness to its form.

Beyond its slenderness and iconic appearance, the new design will include low-rise transparent buildings which will house a range of retail outlets, a hotel, educational institutions, nature walks, and other public facilities.

"Having called Brande home for more than 30 years, BESTSELLER intends to give something back to the local community of which they feel very much a part of, by inviting them in," said Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter.

"We would like to open our doors by rethinking the way our company interacts with the local community, and we hope to be able to create value for both our colleagues and the people in Brande," said Anders Krogh Vogdrups, project manager of BESTSELLER.

"The plan is born out of the passion and interest for architecture and a vision of creating a unique building that matches the unique setup of a rethought headquarter," added Anders Krogh Vogdrups.

For some time, Brande has experienced a lack of accommodation facilities for the town’s businesses, and oftentimes business guests end up being send to cities like Herning, Silkeborg, Vejle or even Aarhus to stay the night. BESTSELLER would like to change this and the new project will therefore also contain hotel facilities for BESTSELLER’s own guests and external guests. Furthermore, there are plans to welcome educational institutions to create more life and vigour for the area.
