The series Media Archaeology is an introduction to the innovative uses and methods of research into digital technology and its impact on design and society. The first event in the series is a screening of two documentaries produced in the late 90s that show the emulation of digital technologies in architectural design and computer graphics at the time. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Archaeology of the Digital: Media and Machines.

Paperless Studio, Columbia University
This 1998 documentary was realized during The Paperless Studios which were created in 1994 at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation by dean Bernard Tschumi. Taught by Greg Lynn, Jesse Reiser, Bill MacDonald, Sulan Kolatan, Hani Rashid and Lise-Anne Couture, these studios were among the first entirely dedicated to dynamic computer-generated design. Directed by Odile Fillion and produced by Imagina, INA.

Computer graphics has a rich history, from its early development as an obscure topic of research to its widely accepted role as an important communication tool. The Story of Computer Graphics attempts to document some of the most compelling stories behind the striking graphics and imaging technology that were taken for granted at the time. It premiered in 1999 at the occasion of the annual conferences ofSIGGRAPH. Directed by Frank Foster and produced by Carl Machover and SIGGRAPH Studios.
