Holcim Awards:No pearl of sustainable construction left undiscovered

Foundations 16, the magazine of the Holcim Foundation, is dedicated to providing a glimpse behind the scenes of the 4th International Holcim Awards competition: promotion, project entry, jury evaluation, and prize hand-overs. It is an exciting prelude to the announcement of Holcim Awards winners for 2014 which will take place at five regional events from September to November – and in real time on the Holcim Foundation website.

Foundations 16 looks at the entry and adjudication process of the 4th International Holcim Awards. With a wide range of promotional events and the support of Holcim Group companies, the number of entries reached a new record: by the close of entries 6,103 projects had been submitted in the competition.

At meetings of renowned jury members in five regions of the world specialists studied a total of 2,514 formally correct entries to select the prize winners. The independent experts from architecture, engineering, and urban design, work in a highly professional manner to ensure the most regarded projects and visions are detected and no pearl of sustainable construction is left undiscovered.

The winner verification process led by the Academic Committee of the Holcim Foundation, which is located at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), and the preparations for the Holcim Awards ceremonies are well on the way. The winning projects will be announced and celebrated by region at five Holcim Awards ceremonies in Moscow, Toronto, Medellín, Beirut and Jakarta.
