Lecture:Marcos Acayaba

Lecture
Tuesday, August 5, 2014 6:30pm
Studio-X Rio
The architect and professor Marcos Acayaba is moved by an intense curiosity for investigation, which is reflected in the diversity of his projects.  One of the principal names in São Paulo architecture, Acayaba will present his projects at Studio-X Rio, followed by a conversation with Ana Luísa Nobre.

“While interpreting program in my projects, I seek to analyze the characteristics of a place, its topography, soil, landscape, climate, the accessibility of materials, and the local labor that is available, to then deduct the best strategy for the realization of the work.  The construction strategy, where the production process is fundamental, is a reference in the conception and development of the project.
In the development of a project I consider the activity of the workers during construction, while evaluating all the materials to be used.  Only materials that are indispensable to the realization of the work at hand are used.  All materials must work in the wholeness of their characteristics.  Moreover I take into consideration the use and the action over time on a building.  From the early stages of development I look to prevent and minimize problems of maintenance.
The formwork in my buildings, nearly always new, result from rigorous analytical processes of specific conditions.  With the least of means I try to reach maximum efficiency, comfort and, as a consequence, beauty.  Where nothing is left over, where nothing is missing.”
