London Mayor Sadiq Khan has declared his final decision about the most controversial project Garden Bridge designed by Thomas Heatherwick. According to The Guardian, Sadiq Khan still sees uncertainties on the fundraising scheme to begin construction. 

Earlier this month, Margaret Hodge, a Member of Parliament, submitted an independent report investigating proper management plans over public funds and conducting the procedures about the project. In response to Margaret Hodge's report, Khan responded that ''I have been clear since I became Mayor that I will not spend a penny more of taxpayers' funds, for which I am responsible, on the Garden Bridge. That remains the case.''

After a while later, Rowan Moore from The Guardian wrote a fascinating piece about the project, saying "Garden Bridge Is Turning Into A National Scandal".

Now, apparently, Thomas Heatherwick's Garden Bridge over the River Thames, linking Temple with the South Ban, comes to end. Here's a new statement from London Mayor Sadiq Khan, reported by The Guardian.

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has finally pulled the plug on the controversial plan for a garden bridge across the Thames, announcing that he would not provide the vital financial guarantees needed for construction to begin.

In a letter to the Garden Bridge Trust, the charity leading the much-delayed project, Khan said he was taking the decision because of a continuing shortfall in fundraising for the scheme, and a lack of the necessary land use agreements despite three years of talks.

The news marks the end to the long-running saga of the bridge’s proposed construction, which was championed by Joanna Lumley, Boris Johnson and George Osborne and drew anger from critics who saw it as a symbolic indulgence.....Continue Reading
