David Adjaye proposes his first golden-arched skyscraper for New York

Early conceptual studies have been unveiled for David Adjaye-designed skyscraper located in Downtown Manhattan, New York. This golden-arched building - also called the Wall Street Tower - will be the first skyscraper project of Ghanaian British architect David Adjaye after completed his first New York City building in Harlem called the Sugar Hill Development.

First conceptual studies of the 61-storey skyscraper have been published by the developer Lightstone Group's dedicated website and The Real Deal published the project in detail. The rising-starchitect proposed a 750-foot-tall (229 metre) condominium, which will be erected at the site 130 William Street in the Financial District.

The new condominium tower features numerous golden-arched windows wrapped by its four façades and presents a unique appearance with all equal sizes.  The Wall Street Tower will include 244 luxury units with an observatory rooftop to provide panoramic views to the skyline of the city. Two floors of the building will consist of some certain amenities including a wine cellar, indoor pool and spa, fitness center, lounge, movie theater and children’s playroom.

The value of this super skyscraper is expected to reach $701 million - in March, Lightstone already secured a $305 million construction loan for the 59-story tower from Mack Credit Real Estate Strategies, and plans to put $112.5 million of its own cash and land equity into the project, according to its EB-5 website, according the same source.

The company bought this site at 130 William Street for $60 million in 2014, and paid another $15 million the following year to buy additional air rights. 

"What made the Wall Street Tower truly special was that it was the design. We have the world-famous architect David Adjaye, who designed this building. The building is over 800 feet tall, with more than 60 floors. The building has panoramic views over the entire city. You can see the port of New York, along with bridges, the Statue of Liberty," stated in The Real Deal.

Regarding these early conceptual studies, David Adjaye Associates stated that ''these images only reflect early conceptual studies of the building. We remain in the process of refining and evolving the design, with imagery adjusting accordingly. We look forward to sharing final renderings in the coming months."

According to a teaser published in the Lightstone Group's EB-5 website, the prices for David Adjaye-designed condominium will start from $630,000 for a studio and $4.7 million for a four-bedroom. 

The Lightstone Group is awaiting for an approval for this roughly-planned proposal from the City Council and if it is approved, construction is expected to be completed in November 2019.

David Adjaye gained a momentum with his National Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall in Washington, D.C and the recently knighted architect is also known his affordable housing complex in Harlem, called the Sugar Hill Development completed in 2014.

David Adjaye was also named as the world’s most influential architect by TIME Magazine.
