Tampere Travel and Service Centre has not only the potential to become a gateway to Tampere and the rest of Finland, but also the potential of becomming a generator for the future development of the urban centre of Tampere. The vision, "ReConnecting Tampere", introduces an intermodal transportation hub in the heart of the city as well as a development plan for uniting the city centre. By introducing a diverse urban structure that extends from the east to west across the railyard, the project provides a solid and robust foundation for unifying the two sides of Tampere’s city center once and for all.
The Tampere City Region is Finland’s second largest city region after Helsinki and one of the most vigorous growthcentres in Finland. Tampere occupies a significant position in Finland’s city and traffic network.
Today the city centre of Tampere is divided in two by the railway yard that runs through the city. The area ischaracterized by urban backsides and poor connections across the railyard.
The vision unifies the city centre into one coherent urban structure and introduces a new 21st century transportationhub characterized by the ease of travel, sustainable means of transportation, as well as services that meet the demandof today’s Tampere.
Challenge - The urban fabric of Tampere is cut in two by the railyard.
Today the railyard imposes a large scar in the urban fabric.

The Arcade provides travelers and locals with an active and qualitative edge that opens up towards park.
The Central Park, located at the connection point in between the old and the new centre, functions as a green lung inthe heart of the city and becomes a recreational meeting point in the very heart of the city.
