Architect Kamu Iyer says you can judge a city by how its poor live.
Mumbai’s near-absence of high-quality housing for those on low incomes and “inhuman living conditions” for the poorest, Mr. Iyer says, reveal a city that has neglected its most vulnerable as it has focused on erecting the skyscrapers that now delineate the skyline of India’s financial capital.
In his book titled “Boombay: From Precincts to Sprawl”, Mr. Iyer chronicles in words, black and white photographs and sketches how the island city of Bombay ate into the mainland and rapidly turned into India’s vibrant but increasingly stratified economic powerhouse.....Continue Reading
