Free School of Architecture releases updates about Application Process for 2017 Academic Year

Ready for 'non-tuition' education? The Free School of Architecture (FSA) has finally shared new updates about application process for 2017 Academic Year. Launched by Peter Zellner last year, the FSA will now select its new students to start the new term on June 1, 2017.

In late November, Peter Zellner spoke to World Architecture Community about the FSA's education system in an exclusive interview. The FSA will select 12 post graduate students for the first class and a faculty of 10 teachers. The FSA’s First Year Class will be announced on Thursday, March 1, 2017 on its website. 

See application procedures about the FSA below:

1. FSA's two (2) page Application Form will be issued for download from the FSA website on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 12 PM PDT.

The application form will be issued in Word and PDF formats but must be returned as a PDF.

The application will consist of two pages:

a. A one (1) page 800 word (max.) applicant statement carrying no identifying information;

&

b. A one (1) page applicant information form carrying contact and academic information.

The FSA Application Forms will be due no later than Tuesday, January 31, 2017 via email: [email protected]

No FEE will be associated with or accepted for application to the Free School of Architecture.

A FAQ will be posted to the FSA website on January 15, 2017.

2. All FSA Applications will be blind reviewed by a selection committee composed of members of the FSA Board of Advisors.

The FSA Founding Board of Advisors will be announced in February 2017.

3. FSA’s First Year Class will be announced on Thursday, March 1, 2017 at 12 PM PDT via the FSA Website and a Press Release.

Successful applicants will be contacted 1 week in advance of the announcement on Monday, February 20, 2017 to confirm attendance.

In the event that an applicant is unable to attend FSA in 2017, the school will maintain a standby list of 10 additional individuals eligible for entry to FSA. Standby list applicants will be contacted in advance of the announcement to confirm attendance

4. Applicants' design portfolios, cvs, websites or letters of recommendation will not be accepted and submission of any of these items will disqualify any application to the Free School of Architecture. Early or unsolicited submissions not completed using FSA's Application forms will disqualify any application to the Free School of Architecture.

Free School of Architecture (FSA) Candidate Eligibility  

Applicant eligibility (minimum requirements) to enter FSA Year One are:

a. Evidence of completion of one (1) professional architectural degree and/or evidence that the applicant is currently enrolled in the terminal year of same;

or

b. Evidence of completion of one (1) professional degree and/or evidence that the applicant is currently enrolled in the terminal year of an aligned program in environmental design or the arts;

B. Residency in Los Angeles, California or the ability to travel to Los Angeles, California for the period starting Thursday, June 1, 2017 and ending Saturday, July 15, 2017. 

FSA will not assist with travel costs, local accommodations or Entry VISAS for foreign nationals.

In the event that a successful candidate cannot meet these requirements FSA will make every effort to accommodate their application to the school in 2018.

C. Fluency in written and spoken English is a minimum entry requirement.
