After a long time of guessing how McKeldin Plaza, the traffic island at the Inner Harbor, would be redesigned, Downtown Partnership of Baltimore Inc. finally lifted the veil during a recent meeting. Three local architectural firms — Mahan Rykiel Associates Inc., Ayers Saint Gross and Ziger/Snead Architects — presented their response to Downtown Partnership's call for a plaza that creates a civic space and gateway for the city.
The proposed design would close the six-lane Calvert Street connector that separates the area of the McKeldin Fountain from Harborplace, a move that was one of the core suggestions of both the Pratt Street redevelopment plans of 2008 and the Inner Harbor 2.0 plans of 2013, both generated by ASG.....Continue Reading
