Mark Tlachac lead a national tour of Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian architecture standing just a short walk from Alabama’s only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house, Florence’s Rosenbaum House. Tlachac is the director of the Frank Lloyd Wright visitors program at the Florida Southern College Architectural District, home to the largest collection of Wright structures in a single location. Tlachac was in Florence on Saturday as part of the “All Wright All Day” event celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Rosenbaum family’s move to the Riverview Drive house.
The Rosenbaum house is frequently called one of the best examples of Usonian architecture, a term coined by Wright to describe an architecture style that was specific to the United States and was congruent with the natural aspects of the surrounding land. Tlachac said harmony with nature and the grid-like design of these houses typified Wright’s Usonian style.
