Yosuke Tomiya
Yosuke Tomiya Architectural Design is an architecture studio based in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, specializing in custom residential architecture and small-scale public buildings.
Our design process begins not with form, but with a careful reading of the site. Every project starts by observing the existing landscape, climate, topography, sunlight, surrounding context, and the ways people naturally experience a place. We believe that architecture should emerge from these conditions rather than be imposed upon them.
Working in Hokkaido, where nature and the four distinct seasons strongly influence everyday life, we strive to create spaces that enrich daily living through natural light, framed views, carefully composed sequences, and a close relationship with the surrounding environment. High-performance building envelopes and environmental design quietly support this experience, allowing comfort to coexist with a deep connection to nature.
Rather than pursuing expressive forms for their own sake, we seek timeless architecture that feels inevitable—buildings that could only exist on their particular site. We believe that the greatest richness often comes not from adding more, but from discovering the qualities that already exist within a place.
Our work has received national recognition in Japan and continues to explore architecture as a thoughtful dialogue between people, landscape, and everyday life.
