A house that has an ever-increasing sense of belonging to its place, where the scent and feel of the sea can be combined with the stroke of the sand. Vision, Touch, Smell, Sonic tenor and in a word | Powerful Atmosphere | is the notion we have tried to approach.
The Shell: The scorching sun of Dubai needs to be addressed. A white shell of rammed earth covers the main volume of the building. A shell that while protecting, avoids resonating confinement and strikes a balance between being closed and open. This shell covers the roof surface and the upper floor and is lowered to the point that can serve as a canopy for the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The Windcatcher: The windcatchers, used by the ancient inhabitant built in this area for natural ventilation, are still an unrivaled and sustainable solution. We positioned the windcatcher in such a way so that it absorbs the breeze and the scent of the sea, passes it through the floor space, and exits the large void that lays along it. Its lofty majesty echoes a lighthouse on top of the building.
Light-catchers: Large and small cylindrical light-catchers allow light to shine in and also facilitate the exploration of the sky. Positioned on top of the main void and in other spaces, and combined with the cylindrical windcatcher, they create an abstract perspective on the structure’s roof; it is as if they are a legacy of the past still standing by the sea.
The Ramp: The continuous ramp here is not only a response to the needs of the physically disabled but also a temptation to constantly walk through and tour the space. And what makes it even more seductive is its ceaseless journey from the inside of the house to the outside, and even beyond, where, by moving away from the building, it provides an opportunity to be alone by the sea and take in its sound.
An extension from the shore: A beach villa should be along the beach, immediately and indisputably. The beach villa should be understood and touched not only through our eyes but with all senses. The beach sand extends uninterrupted from the shore into the courtyard and replaces the omnipresent green space, where, by walking and touching its particles, we embody a swimmer who feels the flow of water on their skin.
