Puerto Ángel is a complex of high-end suites located in Puerto Ángel Bay, Oaxaca. This development is integrated into a property characterized by an approximate 50° slope, surrounded by cliffs. The challenge: How to create a real estate development project that is respectful of the context and the terrain and proposes a healthy dialogue around vertical architecture? How do you create a building without creating a building?
Recognizing the complexity of the terrain is key to determining the spatial organization that best resolves a project. In this case, the staggered properties allow for the capitalization of the altimetric resources of the context and respects the diagonality of the site. Puerto Ángel materializes the transitional space between the limestone of the mountain, the plant composition, and the horizon of the Pacific coast, generating a hybrid context where the user can focus their attention on the richness of the immediate surroundings from within the project.
To create functional modules adaptable to the topography, a construction system of columns with waffle slabs was used. The exposed waffle slab, in addition to being part of the interior design, allows one user's rooftop to become another's terrace, optimizing the space dedicated to outdoor spaces. With a material focus on wood, glass, and concrete elements, the facades are opened to the natural surroundings, generating 270° views of the open sea. When the windows need to be closed, wooden louvers insulate the interior, while on the exterior, the wood of this enclosure blends with the color scheme of the landscape.
